Our superfood this month is stone fruit! These are fruits defined as those with flesh or pulp enclosing a stone, which we may sometimes confuse with a seed. The kinds of fruits I’m talking about happen to be some of my favorites. Peaches, plums, cherries, and nectarines are all common stone fruits!
Peaches are high in vitamin C and improve the amount of collagen your body produces, meaning healthier skin! Sign me up!
Plums have an abundance of vitamins A, K, and C, and folate and fiber. Consuming lots of plums means strong bones, better digestion, and cognitive health. Pair these incredible benefits with a slightly sour yet juicy plum and you have the whole package. I’m sold!
Cherries have lots of vitamin C, antioxidants, and melatonin, meaning they help regulate your sleep cycle. They also have anti-inflammatory effects, so they’re the perfect snack for your post-workout-lay-around-I-was-already-active-so-I’m-gonna-watch-netflix time of day!
Nectarines are high in vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and beta-carotene, which is an antioxidant used to make vitamin A to better skin, teeth, and bone health. Just an all around good fruit… Get it? Because it’s round?
Peaches are my personal favorite of the stone fruits because of how juicy it is yet it’s so packed with flavor! Stone fruits are so versatile and easy to include in our diet when they’re in season. Not taking advantage of stone fruit season is like not going to the pumpkin patch in the Fall… it’s just silly to miss out!
